Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words

My answer :

This bar graph illustrates the number of television receivers per 1000 habitants in the world in 1970 and 1990. As the diagram, the number of TV receivers in 1970 was much less than that in 1990.

From the figure, it can be seen that the number of television receivers in Developed Countries was the biggest increase of the other countries by 263 in 1970 and 548 in 1990. In contrast, the number of those in Least Developed Countries was the lowest decrease by 0.5 in 1970 and 23 in 1990, and then, that was only marginally less than Developing countries by 9.9 in 1970 and 157 in 1990 and then World Total by 81 in 1970 and 240 in 1990.

It is clear that the number of TV receivers was larger in 1990 than in 1970 and that in Developed Countries was the biggest in the world over the 20 years.

The graph below shows the employment patterns in Alia over the period of 1920 to 2000.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words

My answer:

The graph shows the employment patters by sector of Agriculture, Manufacturing, Professional, Business, and Others from 1920 to 2000 in Alia.

From the figure, it can be seen that Agriculture was the only sector showing continuously considerable decrease in the employment patterns between 1920 and 2000 from about 90 percent to 10 percent. The employment patterns of Manufacturing and Professional showed quite similar growth rising from 4 percent in 1920 to about 7 percent in 1960; then, the both sectors experienced significant increase by about 38 percent for Manufacturing and 30 percent for Professional.

The different pattern can be viewed from Business degreasing marginally from 10 percent in 1920 to 2 percent in 1960 and then rising by 20 percent in 2000. The Others sector showed a fluctuation pattern rising marginally from about 10 percent in 1920 to about 15 percent in 1940 and then decreasing by less than 14 percent in 1960. This sector remained stagnant by about 10 percent in the next years.

It is clear that the employment patters in Alia between 1920 and 2000 rose for all of those except Agriculture and Others.

The figure represents that the chicken consumption was around 150 grams/week in 1979, and then, the consumption of that increased markedly by about 200 grams/week over the period of 1979 to 1989 and then over 250 grams/week in 2004, in contrast to the consumption of beef, there was a rapid decline of that from about 200 grams/week to 100 grams/week between 1989 and 2004, whereas that was fluctuation over the period of 1979 to 1984. On the other hand, the consumption of lamb showed continuously considerable decrease from 150 grams/week in 1979 to 50 grams/week in 2004, as the time the fish consumption remained stagnant by about 50 grams/week every year.

New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is the last night at the end of December annually. In western culture, New Year's Eve is usually celebrated with parties and gatherings with relatives, friends, or family while waiting for the turn of the year.

In the some big cities, New Year's Eve is celebrated with a party together in the open field. In the major cities, the party of New Year’s Eve is often reported by television networks and news agencies. Those cities are Edinburgh, Sydney, Toronto, Tokyo, Moscow, London, Berlin, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, and New York City.

Throughout the last day of the year, the Japanese people are preoccupied with the tradition of "toshi Koshi" (passing the year). In Japan, New Year's Eve usually called with "joya" is an opportunity for family members to gather. Also, there is a tradition of eating buckwheat called with “toshikoshi” and sardines (toshikoshi iwashi). In addition, Japanese have a tradition of welcoming “toshigami” (God of the new year). That tradition is done in the way to not sleep all night. They believe that whoever falls asleep quickly will be gray-haired (Wikipedia).

In Indonesia, New Year's Eve is celebrated by going around the city by using cars and motorcycles. They sound the trumpets of paperboard and motorcycles/cars as the trumpet of Om Tolelet Om trending in Indonesia now in the streets and places of entertainment. This has become a culture of the Indonesian people while welcoming the New Year.

The most important thing of the turn of the year is our good hope and wish to do something important in the next year (2017).

Write about the following topic:

Modern technology has made it easier for individuals to download copyrighted music and books from the internet for no charge.

what extent is this a positive or negative development?

Give reasons for answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

My answer:

Modern technology has made it easier for individuals to download copyrighted music and books from the internet for no charge. Modern technology is what we use every day in our life such as mobile phone and computer. Overall, modern technology like those has video and others. However, using advance technology sometimes makes the bad impacts for its user.

Modern technology really helps us. For instance, it gives us ease in our life. Mobile phone or computer is one of the modern technologies we usually use to download copyrighted music, files, video, and books on the internet for no charge. Also, by using mobile phone, we can add many friends by using social media like BBM, LINE, Whatsapp, Facebook, and others. We can use them to do online business on mobile phone such as selling a range of products bringing profits like clothes, air tickets, and others. It can be compared with the condition on the days of our parents still using manual methods in all of their lives. Getting music, they must go to market to buy cassettes and books. In contrast, now we can get music, video, book, and files for no charge by using modern technology.

On the other hand, modern technology often gives bad impacts for its users. Especially for children who have already been using mobile phones. There are many inappropriate contents to be reached by children because they can’t filter the good or bad information for them so that it can make a bad impact on the development of their mental. Also, modern technology is often used for media of scans by much wrong information to trick the victim.
For example, in the accidents requiring the family of victim to send some money to the one claiming of the member of hospital, it will hurt many parties especially victims surely.

in conclusion, while often giving bad impact to its user, using modern technology is important to remember that benefits offered by the advance technology are very much then it can facilitate us to do anything that we want.

Who can get a stroke?

Who can get a stroke?

We are at the age of under 40 years old. The daily activities are yet quite a lot. There are dreams reflected in the mind. But, recently, we often drop things we hold. Our writing is uglier and uglier. Our toes frequently cramp and rub against each other. If we are experiencing the above symptoms, we have to be careful. Maybe, we had a stroke.

The stroke attacks not only the elderly people but also the adults under 30 years old. The stroke is usually caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. We can detect symptoms of a mild stroke. However, what do you know the characteristics of someone having a stroke?
To answer this question, let’s understand the definition of the stroke formerly! The stroke is an indication occurring as a result of disruption of blood flow to the brain. So, something interfering with blood flow like blockage or unstable blood pressure can lead to stroke.

In the book of heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure, Handrawan Nadesul said high enough risk of stroke happens in the people having high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. Furthermore, high enough risk of that also occurs in the person having prolonged severe stress or cigarette addiction. The man having risk of hereditary disease associated with the metabolism body habitually has the risk of stress.

Actually, the blockage of the blood vessels most often happens as a result of fat deposits. These fat deposits form a kind of plaque making the blood flow becoming clogged in the blood vessels. The blockage by those often occurs in the blood vessels of the brain and neck.

Other blockages can be caused by the piles of clot grain. Embolism or clot granules mostly derive from the flow of blood from the heart and blood vessels. Embolism triggers such as very weak blood flow, too thick blood, and conjoined platelets can also cause tendency of stroke.

Rainy Season

Rain

Rain is endowment for the inhabitant living in the area frequently incurred by drought. However, in the metropolis densely populated and having a little water absorption, the precipitation can be catastrophe inasmuch as it causes flood.

The rain often carries plenty of germs, from mild illness to a dangerous disease. Flu is one of those often attacking our body. Employees many times use it as a justification to not enter office.

Actually, there are a couple of actions we can do to be still productive and avoid the disease during the rainy season. By starting to meet the daily nutrient intake, good nutrition can help the body to produce energy and boost the immune system.

While the precipitation is coming down when we want to go to office, we ought to bring extra clothes. It is to replace the clothes worn when have been wet. Using the wet clothes is not only uncomfortable but also cold. Furthermore, the rain wetting the clothes potentially carries the germs.

Also, don’t forget to bring an umbrella and a raincoat. A small umbrella can be inserted into a briefcase, while a raincoat can be stored on a motorcycle. This becomes an effective way to minimize the impact of the pouring rain. Nevertheless, keep in mind! If we use a raincoat, we don’t use too wide raincoat because it interferes the comfort and it is dangerous while driving.

In addition, we must diligently wash the feet and hands when splashed by rain. Use antiseptic soap to wash it! This is to prevent itching, water fleas attacking and others.
During summer, the temperature will drop a few degrees, so that the air becomes cooler. We need to bring a jacket or sweater, in order that our body is not cool and flatulence. We can still wear the jacket while working. If we sip body-warmer drinking, that is much better.
Moreover, do easy exercise before leaving for work in the morning. If the rain is not coming down, we can jog and walk around the housing. These activities can help our heart to deliver oxygen throughout the body to control blood pressure to remain stable.

Recognition of the right of minorities

Recognition of the right of minorities

Will Kymlicka, political and multiculturalism scientist, said the most important thing of citizenship is the recognition of the rights of minorities by the state and the majority (Kymlicka, 2009). Therefore, there is a real recognition by Indonesia Muslims as the majority of the inhabitants of Indonesian country to appreciate, respect, and empathize to them in the meaning of religion.

If the Muslims as the majority reluctant to recognize, respect, and empathize for minorities, Indonesian Muslims will be questioned by other countries politically and multiculturally. In fact, Islamic commitment declared as rahmatan lil a’lamin will be disputed.

The Muslims must acknowledge, respect, and empathize to minority people. In the multiculturalism perspective, if you are the minorities who honor, respect, and empathize to the majority, it is the subjugation politics of the majority.

However, if the Muslims have begun to appreciate, respect, and empathize with other religious minorities, it is evidence of openness and political behavior that is democratic and inclusive and also it is the proof that the Muslims don’t feel threatened by the minorities.

Actually, some events related to the position of minority religion that sometimes feels threatened by majority give a serious note to the Muslims in this country. Do the Muslims feel threatened by the minorities? If you say yes, it will be a serious problem that must be solved because Indonesia is a country that has declared itself as a religious state not secular nation even if it is not based on Islam but Muslim society.

But, although Indonesia is not based on Islam, it is undeniable that the values of Islam and even Islamic culture have become part of Indonesia. We can see this country has given big space for Islam to be expressed in the room of the political public.

Workplace

Personal development in the workplace

In a survey conducted by a nonprofit research institute, it is founded that half of respondents (49 %) lack trust in parliament in performing his function and main task as a legislature. Only 23 % of 1200 respondents still trusts legislature.

How can the people trust their representatives hitting table and fighting one another in discussion rooms when they have failed to get what they want. Evidently, position, appearance, and level of one’s education don’t guarantee making an adult person. In the workplace, we often see our boss behaving like 10-year-old child, selfish, grumpy, sensational, and timid person. The boss always requires employees to do what he asks.

Definitely, transaction in organization, politics, and business are not simple. Relationships, commitment, negotiation, assertiveness, good communication, and courage need to be developed to improve the character himself. Growing person will display a positive and optimistic attitude to face difficult things.

In the political and professional field, differences in attitudes and opinions or difficult challenges and targets are usually faced by workers. A person’s success in dealing with conflicts and crises will be his personal savings and it will make him more mature.

Personality development in simpler words makes you a good human being. The pressure and stress experienced by the individual can be managed into the process of personal development. The ability of individuals to move on, positive thinking in crucial situations, and being a motivator to evoke the spirit of his employees are a high selling price for companies or institutions.

As a professional, we need to remind ourselves that the personality, maturity, reactions, attitudes, and tranquility in solving problems and making decisions are far more valuable than mere cleverness.

Language

Language showing the nation

Language is the identity of ethnic and social background and also language is used for media of communication.

The function of language is included in the short phrase of classic proverb like “The language showing the nation”. We can see the good or bad character of human with his word when they speak.

Although, Indonesia claimed that Indonesian language is uniting language, Indonesia didn’t still ignore the traditional language spreading in this country. The traditional language can add many vocabularies for Indonesian language and become a part of the Indonesia culture.

However, we aware that many Indonesian people usually use foreign language in their daily activities. Moreover, in the young generation, for competition in the era of globalization, they always study about foreign language without matching to study their mother language.

Ironically, many children are cleaver to speak foreign language than Indonesian language. Moreover, they understand that their traditional language becomes character of themselves.

In 1999, UNESCO has determined the 21st of February is international mother language day. It is to promote local language and understand multiculturalism and multilingualism−ability to speak a lot of language. In addition, this date is also become as the day of the unification of Dhaka University students and the societies, when Bangladesh is still a part of the Pakistan in 1952.

At that time, the demonstrators are dominated by Bengali ethnic struggling for their mother language−Bengalian language− as one of the official language of Pakistan. This demonstration had caused victims who died, before local government passed the Urdu language as one of the official language at Pakistan.

When the Bengalian people sacrificed their lives to show their mother language, what about us? Have we learn our mother language and introduce to our children?

Traveling

Exotic Travel in the Public Mind

Generally, people traveling want to enjoy a different atmosphere in the middle of his daily routine and busyness. Many people want a normal travel, traveling to a place for pausing daily routine and find a natural freshness. Traveling in the public mind is still dominated by the idea of going to a place having beautiful scenery with family members.

The culture of our grouping society tends to go on vacation with the family. Only 40% of respondents consider a playful mood with loved ones or family to become one of the aspects really making traveling activities to be beautiful or exotic.

Most people think beauty is beautiful, historic, charming sights. Adventuring into the beautiful islands, diving into the blue sea, and enjoying the natural scenery of the luring mountains become exotic size of tourist activities undertaken.

In contrast, other respondents consider exotic tourist spot is a place still very natural and having not been visited by many people. Natural element of exotic tourist spot can give the sensation of different beauty.

In traveling exotic tourist spot, secluding to a place – having a distinctive appeal because it is not widely known – to seek the freshness of soul is not really being public reference of the 709 respondents interviewed, this poll captured 23% of respondents admitted to having an exotic travel trip.

Apart from the different understanding about exotic travel, it appears the travel-designated travel relatively isn’t a lot differences from the usual popular excursion. Here is the exposure of exotic travel in the public mind in the still careless perspective.

Translated from Elfast’s book.

Mother

Many people believe that women make better parents than men and that this is way they have the greater role in raising children in most societies. Others claim that men are just as good as women at parenting.

Actually, women and men can be good parents to guide and mother their children. But, many people believe that women can be better parents than men and also that this is the way that they have in guiding the children in most societies. The women will be good parents with all of her potential and blessing.

The women are given blessing by god such as having mentality of a mother, patience, and affection. Those usually are used to mother and led their children. Certainly, they have mentality of a mother. That isn’t seen in men because there is different soul. Also, children have many times with the women (their mother). They usually prefer to close by mom.

In conclusion, women are the best parent to lead their children with all of the their blessing by God then it is important to remember that the women are the best human in the world because they mother us with their patience and affection so as we can be right now.
Happy Mother’s Day

Capitalism

The cause of global warming can’t be separated from capitalism. The various agreements to prevent earth from destruction have been released, but in reality, precisely, capitalism freely exploits the earth. Climate change can’t be simply solved by reducing pollution but requiring the fundamental change of the economic system and our mindset. The key is to curb the power of corporation, build local economy, and uphold democracy so that the common interest is a priority.

Now, the earth is fighting against the capital understanding. In the case in Greece, the capitalism defeats the effort of environmental conversation. Greece – hit by the economic crisis – must give up the wonderful sea is becoming object of oil and gas exploitation which is high risk of contamination. The victory of capitalism had also happened in Istanbul (Turkey) which lost beautiful gardens by the interests of investor who builds shopping centers.

The issues of global warming are clearly raised by Naomi Klein, who is journalist and environmental activist. His third book about the environment after The Shock Doctrine and No Logo gives an optimistic view to save the earth. While the need of human is increasing, the earth’s resources are limited and continue to be exploited. Therefore, the consumption behavior must be changed or our earth will change.

Like an alternative solution, Klein discusses some technical effort that can be done to reduce global warming by using Geoengineering Scheme, the concept of manipulating the earth’s climate to counteract the effort of global warming. One of the ideals raised dims sunlight using helium balloons spraying sulfate. Sulfate droplets and aerosol particles would reflect solar energy to back into space and can prevent global warming. This method has been tested during a volcanic eruption.
