Units of electricity by fuel source in Australia and France. Writing Task 1

Writing Task 1

The pie charts below show units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Units of electricity by fuel source in Australia

Units of electricity by fuel source in France

Task 1
The pie charts compare the sources of electricity produced using five different sources of fuel in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000. Between these years, electricity production almost doubled, rising from 100 to 170 units in Australia, and from 90 to 180 units in France.

In 1980, Australia used coal as the main electricity source (50 units) and the remainder was produced from natural gas, hydro power (each producing 20 units) and oil (which produced only 10 units). By 2000, coal became the fuel for than 75% of electricity produced and only hydro continued to be the other significant source supplying approximately 20%.

In contrast, France used coal as a source for only 25 units of electricity in 1980, which was matched by natural gas. The remaining 40 units were produced largely from oil and nuclear power, with hydro contributing only 5 units. But, by 2000, nuclear power, which was not used at all in Australia, developed into the main source, producing almost 75% of electricity, at 126 units, while coal and oil together produced only 50 units. The other sources were no longer significant.

Overall, it is clear that by 2000 these two countries relied on different principal fuel sources: Australia relied on coal and France on nuclear power.

The rising levels of congestion and air pollution in big cities. Writing Task 2

WRITING TASK 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task
Write an essay for a university lecturer on this following topic.
The rising levels of congestion and air pollution found in most of the world’s cities can be attributed directly to the rapidly increasing number of private cars in use. In order to reverse this this decline in the quality of life in cities, attempts must be made to encourage people to use their cars less and public transport more.
Discuss possible ways to encourage the use of public transport.
You should write at least 250 words.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Task 2
Anyone living in a city is aware of the increasing number of cars on the road and the kinds of problems this happening such as traffic jams, air pollution, and longer commuting periods. As economic growth spreads to increasing number of people accessing to cars, this trend is likely to worsen. The solution, it would seem, is for government to encourage the use of public transport in urban areas, thus decreasing dependence on the car.
One way to stimulate public transport use is to make private car use more expensive and inconvenient. The introduction of tolls along urban motorways has been successfully employed in many cities. Other such are high-priced permits for parking in urban areas and the restriction of parking to a limited number of cars. Faced with high costs or no place to park, commuters would perhaps be more willing to abandon their cars in favor of buses or trains.
There are less punishing ways of spurring public transport use. The construction of free carparks at suburban train stations has proven successful in quite a number of countries. This allows commuters to drive part of the way, but take public transport into the central, most congested, urban areas.
Indeed, making public transport more comfortable and convenient should be worked to attract more commuters and decrease traffic congestion. Public transport that that is convenient and comfortable retains its passengers, much like any business that satisfies its customers. The more commuters committed to taking public transport, the less congestion on city streets.

Captain John Smith has a secure place in American history as the leader whose firmness and courage saved the English colony in Virginia from disaster in 1608. Less known are his exploits as explorer and geographer. The map above, with Smith’s portruit in the corner, was engraved in London from notes and observations he made in 1614 on an expedition to the region he named New England. Today the term embraces the six northeastern states of the Union. The Pilgrims had a copy of this map aboard the Mayflower in 1620 when they landed at Plymouth (spelled “Plimouth” in the lower left corner). Smith’s “Cape James” is now Cape Cod.

Women Make Better Parents Than Men. Writing Task 2 of IELTS

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic.

Many people believe that women make better parents than men and that this is way they have the greater role in raising children in most societies. Others claim that men are just as good as women at parenting.

Write an essay expressing your point and view.

Give reasons for your answer.

You should write at least 250 words.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

For example:

It is largely know that the parenting of children has different patterns of the roles and responsibilities of men and women. Many people still believe that the women are better than men in parenting, especially in undertaking the responsibility as mothers, while some believe that this conception is not necessarily right.

In many societies, women are considered as the best parents for their children. Those are responsible to manage anything related to the household such as cleaning the house, parenting the children, washing the clothes and equipment, shopping to the market and cooking the meal for entire family members. But, this belief is facing the challenges nowadays, because, in fact, the women can easily get and perform the job in the working outside of their homes as well as men.

In this condition, the both of men and women are collectively responsible to manage their household, including parenting. This condition also leads many people to rethink about the segregation or separation of the duties between men and women. So, nowadays, many people can still perform in job outside and manage the household.

In many cities, many people device the house duties between wife and husband, while other give their children, especially for their babies, to be parented by qualified baby-sister. However, the mothers as the natural parents of their children give the natural milk for their child health.

We argue that women can give much attention to their children, if they still work outside. Moreover, this will lead to correct the conception of the women are only capable in managing the household and parenting the children. The fact of gender equality in modern days has proven that the parenting can be managed by both of men and women.
